An impromptu schedule change gave Jean and I an open morning on Saturday 9/16, and we were able to register for the Run for the Trails, put on by the Essex County Trail Association (ECTA).
ECTA does great work and their hands helped shape many of the local trails.
Anyway, there were both 5 and 10 mile options and Jean and I opted for the 5, having us do one loop. Read More
The course started out along some trails that parallel railroad tracks and included a doozie of hill in the beginning. I pretty much blew up on that first hill and spent the rest of the race in oxygen debt. My typical race strategy involves blowing up early, so I was on right on track.
The course then looped through Appleton Farms and Pingree Reservation, coinciding with some parts of the Discover Hamilton trails and the Bay Circuit Trail.
It was great course: very well marked and beautiful. Jean and I both had a great time and we plan on participating in more of the ECTA events and next year, we'll do the 10M.

Thanks to ECTA and all of the sponsors, including New England Running Company--our favorite running store--Jean won a gift certificate!
